Attached are slides to accompany a YouTube video about approaching AQA’s Unseen Poetry GCSE question. There are two practice questions, writing frames and step-by-step guides for each of the two exam questions. This well-presented pack focuses on AQA GCSE English Language Paper 1, Questions 1-5 (8700). There are four one-hour lessons covering each area of the exam paper, helping students feel more prepared for the exam. The lessons were planned to teach the exam skills thoroughly, though they could be used for revision lessons. Each lesson requires minimal preparation and is designed with pupil engagement in mind. With sixty slides, this PowerPoint has a series of easy to follow activities with clear instructions and a variety of tasks. It focuses on assessment objectives and timings, aiming to give pupils a clear understanding of the exam and what is expected of them. The aim is to provide students with the skills and confidence needed to sit and conquer this exam paper on their own. Included are: independent, pair & group work tasks, opportunities for self and peer assessment, extension tasks, writing frames, homework tasks and, in the event of emergencies, a cover lesson work sheet (though, hopefully it won’t be needed). There is also a model answer for each question to help students engage with the mark scheme. Personally, I have found that, when using this series of papers and PowerPoints, students have grown in both confidence and ability on their way to achieving their target grades, commenting on the challenge that the lessons provide them with. This particular pack focuses on an extract from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s’ ‘The Great Gatsby’ and is provided in the style of the AQA English Language Paper One exam. Additionally, this pack includes a copy of H.G. Wells’ ‘The Time Machine’ with exam questions as a homework task. All resources are fully editable so that you can tailor to suit the needs of your class. This PowerPoint and accompanying revision resources focus on AQA GCSE English Literature: Love and Relationships Poetry. The PowerPoint focuses on comparing Follower with Eden Rock. Over the course of 37 slides, there are three one-hour revision lessons with a range of tasks teaching students how to annotate the poems and then, how to write up their responses. There are three exam-style questions, plus one extra for a homework task. Each lesson has a model answer for students to peer assess. Lesson One - Focus on Follower Lesson Two - Focus on Eden Rock Lesson Three - Focus on comparing the two poems For the revision resource, essentially, everywhere there is a letter or number joining two hexagons, students have to think about the relationship between the two poems in the hexagons. The activity is designed to get students thinking about what the poems have in common and how they can compare the poems in preparation for the exam. This pack also contains exam-style questions that can be given to students as extra revision, practice papers, during lessons, as intervention, or as homework. There is one examination question for each of the poems in the cluster (listed below). However, please note that, whilst there are exam questions for each poem, copies of the copyrighted poems are not included. KS3 Non-Fiction Writing Scheme of Work This PowerPoint contains twenty one-hour lessons (233 slides) that focus on nonfiction writing skills, and is aimed at Key Stage Three. There are a wide range of tasks (lessons listed below) that focus on building the key skills of nonfiction writing: planning, language and structure methods, accurate punctuation, vocabulary and proofreading. There are practice questions, original non-fiction model responses, extension tasks, punctuation activities, and a whole bunch more! I have also included a second PowerPoint that can be printed as a resource booklet for students. This will save you time in printing and slicing (and will also save you a fortune on glue sticks!). Additionally, there are weekly homework tasks. And three printable sheets that can be used as KS3 nonfiction cover work if you are in a pinch. The premise is that students would gather information about a particular non- fiction topic by watching a documentary. They would then learn about the form of the text and plan their responses thoroughly. They would then learn a new skill and use this to complete some extended writing, before proofreading and editing their work. As a result, for some texts, they will be planning and writing over multiple lessons to really give them the chance to develop and hone their non-fiction writing skills. This pack focuses on revising the AQA GCSE English Literature Paper 1, Section B: 19th Century novel - The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde. A Word document is included with twelve exam-style questions that can be given to students: as extra revision, as practice papers, during lessons, for intervention, or as homework. There are a range of character and theme questions and I have made sure that there is at least one from each chapter of the novel. These assessment questions can be used with KS4 for exam preparation or as practice exercises for KS3. All tasks are written according to the new GCSE numbering system and are designed for the New Specification AQA English Literature: Paper One (exams from 2017 onward). I have tried to pick questions that aren’t so obvious, in order to test my students’ knowledge and understanding of the text more thoroughly. This PowerPoint contains ten activities in total (listed below). These are designed to be given out during a cover lesson, homework, revision activity or as a starter activity in class. The word searches contain words relating to characters, subject terminology and themes - a revision tool to re-introduce students to the text. 1 - Macbeth 2 - Language Terminology 3 - Literature Terminology 4 - An Inspector Calls 5 - Jekyll & Hyde The crosswords feature a key quotation from the text with a word missing as the clue. Students have to use this information to complete the quote and fill in the crossword. This is a PowerPoint with ten creative writing exercises. The success criteria is based on GCSE English Language Paper One Question Five. However, as the tasks are creative writing based, they could be used with any age group. Stay safe!

This is a differentiated copy of the ‘The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde’ by R. L. Stevenson in Microsoft Word format. Many of my students disengage with the novel due to the complex vocabulary. When reading through it with them, I highlighted every word that they stumbled on or were unfamiliar with. I then found easier synonyms for these words and added them to the text in brackets. My students can now engage with the text a lot easier as a result. The whole differentiated novel is 51 pages in total and each chapter begins on a new page for ease of printing. This is part of my 24 lesson scheme of work on the novel, which can be found here. Jekyll and Hyde Scheme of Work This well-presented PowerPoint contains twenty-four engaging one-hour lessons (326 slides) to fully prepare students for their GCSE exam. The lessons focus on AQA GCSE English Literature Paper 1, Section B (The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde). Please watch the attached YouTube video for a run through of a full lesson, as well as a demonstration of other features of the scheme. There are a wide range of tasks (listed below) that focus on building the skills needed for AO1, AO2, and AO3 - including practice questions, original model responses, extension tasks and text extracts. The PowerPoint includes a range of questions that are modelled on the exam (including a baseline and an end of unit assessment). Every chapter, key theme, and key character is covered. Additionally, there are also weekly exam-based homework tasks, and three extra exam-based questions that could be used as cover work, or as extra revision. To keep students engaged throughout, I have included a wide variety of methods to explore the text, its characters, and its themes, including: drama tasks, debates, creative writing, non-fiction writing, group planning, and even a lesson where they study graphology. To scaffold for my students, we read through the novel and highlighted every word that they were unfamiliar with.
